The Rain Poured

The Rain Poured

By Pauline Harris

(*)

Upon waking

I heard the sound

Of thunder and rain

It was pounding

On the roof

I got up to check

As the rain came

For many days

Good to cool

The earth

and refresh

The earth

Green grass

Green trees

But so much water

Everywhere

Over the roads

Down the alley

Over the ditches

Into the woods

Gushing

And moving fast

Seems like water

Everywhere

Hold on…

The sprinkles

Are slowing

Small breaks

In the clouds

A bit of sunshine

Shining brightly

Maybe

Just maybe

A small break

At least until

The next storm
