The Shell

The Shell

by Pauline Harris

*+*

A single piece of sand

Was placed deep inside

This shell to grow

And prosper into

What one day would be

A pearl for someone

A string of pearls

Overhand knotted

Individually strung

Together forming

A necklace for another

All from that one grain

Of simple sand

Kept inside a shell

To make the world

More beautiful

With this creation

Of a pearl, now strung

On a necklace for this one
