The Cottage In the Village

Just over the fence
To walk through the woods
Up the giant hill
To the village for the market
Someone hollered
I, in a rush, could not
Would not turn around
The market is only open
For such a short time today
No time to waste
On my way, on my way
Dinner will be served
Much later today
Biscuits and pumpkin corn chowder
Yum, yum
Fragrant roses on the vine
Catch my nose then my eyes
Such beauty both in aroma and grace
Must move onto the market
Need some oat flour
And fresher churned butter
Milk and honey
Chirps coming from the budgies
Fluttering their wings
Whistles and howls from the guys
Getting back on track
Whispering wind is picking up
A chill buries into my bones
A teardrop from the sky
More heading down this way
Bus shelter nearby huddled me close
Resting and keeping dry
Thoughts of the day
Run through my head
Sitting down, I reflect
The joys found in moments
Just like this make life worthwhile
Grateful for these days
In so many ways

2days

2days

the water ripples
clouds form
overhead
a calming feeling
fast approaches
as sea gulls
swoop down
a fish jumps up
not caught yet
baby tadpoles
swim making ripples
rippling water
under the boardwalk
as I walk
over the water

trees masquerading
as signs
say turn back
bridge closed ahead
expect heavy traffic
questioning
where is the heavy traffic
coming from
if bridge up ahead is closed
instead
I walk on
a mission I am on
to capture
that one
one glimpse of
something intrigues me
I look for cars
to make sure I am safe
on I go and
find a place
plenty of trees
and powerlines too
looking up
moss reaching down
rest I must
observe I will

driving around
looking for this
or that
find another
memory
not lost
but found
and shared by another
sharing stories
of long since past
connections
and smiles
a great feeling
made

alas the days
are past
along with
something more
but the
connection
oh yeah, the
connection
is living on strong
gratitude
for the 2days
may they bring
more connections

magic in the air

walking
just for fun
not in a rush
to go anywhere
or be anywhere

I look around
there in the forward
distance
is
a man

I ignore him
he is in a rush

Some pretty flowers
no, they are just weeds
but still pretty

two girls walk by
laughing
I say hi
they go on their way

Now for up the hill
Oh wait
Look
A duck
A duck flying

Blue clouds to one side
and white ones
in the distance

Splendid feeling
as I make it up the hill

and to the hearing of a car
I look behind…it is way back there
I can hear the car
swoosh
swoosh
almost like the sounds of waves
upon the seashore

Drawn into the sounds
am I listening to them
or to the sound of my
beating…breathing
piter pater
thump
thump
thump

and klank

The car went past
so close
it almost ran me
over

Now I understand
the driver was texting
or something with their phone
Ugh…I could have died

Back to my walk
I am grateful for my walk
the duck the two girls
even for the man in a hurry

Remembering I am here
I am alive
I am…observing, hearing,
and walking,
and breathing

I am alive
