No More Snowflakes

No Snowflakes

The day had come for us to move
I was so young, thinking it was a game
Not knowing anyone, my friends all gone
Taken away and I would have been next
We moved and all was well until
Many others were disappearing
Us, we had to wear emblems
Only here not there was where to shop
Of where to attend school
Curfews and demoralizing rules governed us
Soon we were not even allowed school
Father took us to a new place
New rules…and here, I write in my journal
To remember and to know
Quietly we survive for awhile
Somehow discovered
Stripped of our identities
Scattered from our families
Lost and confused
Illness strickened us
Some taken to showers
Snowflakes everywhere
In the middle of summer
Holes, bones
Clothes with no bodies
Tormented
Tortured
No voice
No choice
Survival
Is a luxury
No water
No food
Silenced forever
Only her words remain
In a journal discovered
On the floor amongst the papers
Let us not return to her times
Never again…speak up
Hear our cries
All we want is respect,
Our voice to be heard,
And our basic needs
And we will work for them
No more snowflakes

No Words, Just Hugs

No words, only hugs
And heartfelt prayers
For the whole world
As we learn we
Are not alone
As we learn we
Truly need one
Another… for too
Long we have turned
A blind eye… but
Now some are waking
To the fact… we
Need one another
And we need to
Learn how to
Get along…
No longer relying on
Eye an I…
Instead learning to
Forgive. Forgiving
Includes learning
To make peace
With oneself
And respecting
All involved…
Truly learning
To carry on with life.
May blessings and hugs
Find there way into
Each of our lives – Pharris

Searching For Calm

Here, I am

living in a storm

Water rushing

This way and that

Water for those

who have a thirst

Here, it is

Drowning others

and me…or so it seems

For those are just dreams

Drops of water

so scarce

and yet, those

complaining

so numerous

to count

Be this way

or choose this path

I often think

Of this thing called

Freedom, so many

fight for the right

to be free

And yet, we

command others

to be just the same

as others

or do the same

as others

How is this freedom?

When we teach our

young ones

Do we teach them

to think and create

or do we teach them

to just follow

and to learn

false histories

false histories are

written by the victors

with no care for

any other

The storm is

engulfing us

all

To give ourselves

love and light

we must hold back

take a moment

Breathe

Learn

Create

Give

Share our thoughts

Share our culture

Share our traditions

Respect others

And Breathe

Calm will come
