Hold My Hand

Hold My Hand
By Pauline Harris

Growing up
Was an adventure
Moving around
The world
Seeing all kinds
Of history
Of places
Pure wonderment
And to know
That touch
Holding of my hand
When walking
Through the woods
Or up the castle steps
Or him dressing up
In monster gear
Protecting us
Far and near
My dad’s hand
Was there to hold
Playing cards
Planting flowers
Taking time
My dad’s hand
Was there to hold
And continues to be
Thank you dad
For being there
Holding my hand

He Mattered

So often, we
As humans just live
Our lives day to day
Making differences
From our perspective
Attempting to matter
To someone else
Sharing a smile
Part of our story
Encouraging
One another
Improving life
Taking care
To leave the world
Impacted by a trace
A mere footprint
Stating we were here
We were loved
Our lives mattered
Because we knew
Our love was real
Our story carries on
In each of those
Touched by our love
Or just in the smile
We so often shared

Lights and Shadows

Settled into making
The most of the moment
Together
Not as common
As wanted to be
Savoring the time spent
Joys and tears
Wash away those fears
Now is forever
If we choose to deliver
Lights shown brightly
Messages in shadows
Dedicating hearts
To delightful caring
Successful giving love
Hugs unfolding gracefully
Cultivating gratefulness
To enlighten joyneys
As we hug them forward

United, At Last

Walking on a path alone
For ever so long
Wanting to share
But no one is there
Isolated
A cry out
But no one listens
Others lost in their own world
Their desires for physical items
Wisdom has guided me beyond
In some respects
I desire to co-create
Co-habit with friends
Making community
A flare for inspiration
Pure wonderment
Finding joy amongst
Those who fear
Caring my life forward
Grateful and blessed
Because I now have you

One Carousel Ride

(Inspiration:  a photo of a carousel)

Just invited for a family outing
Only knew many of them barely
Shy, but adventurous. ..learning more outgoing
I went along to the harbor
Meeting relatives for the first time
A great dinner and then walking
Exploring the boardwalk…finding the carousel
My great grandma looked at it
With such joy in her eyes
She asked for me to ride it
In her stead…glee in my heart
I road the merry horse around
Around …around… and away I go
Such fun…until I saw
Someone making fun of me
Horrified, I cried…I was crushed.
Devastated to this day of the awful
Things do to others …sad now

Summer Sunsetting Days End

(inspiration: a photo of a person walking on the beach at sunset)

Orange glowing evening sun bowing head
Another brightness dimmed instead of shining
Brightly one day walking in sand
Watching the crashing waves come closer
Awakening to the reality, once feared
No longer days of pure joy
As rules change without true notice
Secretly what was once our ways
Have been discarded for specific sameism
No longer freedoms to choose us
Focused upon the setting summer sun
Willing to be grateful for hope
Hoping tomorrow brings seasons of gratitude
Although knowing saddened hearts survive today
Goodbye summer’s glow, sweet misty rain
Take us to the beach again

Kindness

Gentle words of love and courage

Sacred spirit shared with all believers
Beyond words of wisdom, a notion
To carry on expressing joyful giving

Souls awakened beyond this earthly realm
Accomplishing peace everlasting. ..so it is

15 years later

The world came together
That fateful day
11th of September 2001
Planes were taken
And used as weapons
Destroying many lives
And changing many minds
‘They all look the same’
A child said about
About those covered in ash
We all live here on earth
Making the best at our time
The innocence of the child
Keeps compassion alive
For me and you

The Lone Rose

(inspiration: a photo of a rose at the edge of a puddle while raining)

Sitting as raindrops
Appear
As you are
No longer
Near
Puddles
Of tears
Blanket
Me near
Lost without
You close dear
Knowing our love
Will carry us both on
Without dimensions
Through infinity
Laughter
Tears
No more fear
My love
I miss you
So dearly
Time for me
To carry on
In hopes
In dreams
In life

Continuing Cycles

(inspiration:  a photo of a stack of tattered pages.  On the top page is typed ‘Sometimes life is like a round:  each end is a beginning’)

Closing one door, opening the window
A tiny crack full of gratitude
Showers new perceptions bringing new life
Reality changes with knowledge researched
Understanding not all as some perceive
Accepting respect for each other
Continually learning from the whole world
Taking a whisper to make real
Hold fast to true convictions
Willing to respect tolerance
Finding the way back
To build on solid ground
Gratitude for those past future
Here and now creating love unbound
